Change… And I Don’t Mean the Kind that Jingles

Let’s face it… we all say that we are ok with change. But. Are we really? If I told you that you would need to change your wardrobe next week, how would you feel? I’m sure you would say, “Ok.” What about if I told you, that you need to change your house? “Depends on what changes,” is what I would imagine you would say. How about if you need to change your job? Oh! And it’s not just that. You have to go backwards in your career, you won’t be going back to a similar or equal position. Now what would you say? I’m guessing that you wouldn’t be ok with that right? What if the first change was losing your leg and these changes were just consequences from that? Feels like too much change? Tell me about it. I’m currently living those changes.

There are only 2 real constants in life. This first one is a shocker. Are you ready? You are going to die someday! The second, you will be faced with more changes than you can imagine. Some of them will be good. Some of them, not so much. But you will face change. The real question is “How do you deal with change?” You need to have support. Maybe it’s family. Or friends. Or a church family. Your bible. A stranger. It doesn’t matter. You need support! Second, make the most of the change. In other words, adapt. That doesn’t mean you can’t be upset, or mad, or cry, or whatever you feel at the time you learn of the change. It means that you move past that feeling and move forward!

So. When you face your next change, how will you react? Will you lean on, or find, your support? Will you allow yourself to see past your initial emotions?
