- Probably my most recent one is working out. Whether that means going for a walk, a bike ride, going to the gym, or just doing some things at home; I have made every effort to find a way to build up my stamina and keep in shape. At my lowest point during chemo, I was 135 pounds and could barely get out of bed. And I’m not 5′ tall… I am 6’3″ and started this journey at about 180 pounds!
- Stop worrying! One thing I have learned is that something can always go wrong but ususally it doesn’t. There are so many things that I cannot control so stopping worrying about those things (at least not as much) has really taken a lot of stress out of my life.
- Get enough sleep. This one is probably the hardest for me but I do everything I can to maintain it. Taking some melatonin before bed helps to overcome the phantom pains to make it easier to fall asleep.
I admire your determination to lead a healthy, normal as possible lifestyle, Matt! And what is “normal” anyway? Some people are “normally” slobs, and you certainly are not that! Keep working hard towards the goals that you set for yourself and your family! We wish you God’s help and blessing in achieving those goals!
